MacVoices
The talk of the Apple community

Glenn Fleishman is back to talk about some of the many Take Control books he updated and wrote during the pandemic lockdown. We start out with a review of all the titles, then settle in to Take Control of Find My and AirTags. Glenn explains the three different parts of the Find My service, makes sense of devices and items, and touches on the privacy aspects of tracking all the things Find My can track. Privacy is a big thing in the tracking arena, and Glenn talks about that and why he put a full chapter on the subject in the book. (Part 1)

Michael E. Cohen, the tech and copy editor for Take Control of Numbers, 3ed Edition by Sharon Zardetto, discusses some of the newest features of Apple’s spreadsheet. We cover who Numbers is for, and why it excels (no pun intended) at presenting complex spreadsheet data in a visually pleasing, easier-to-understand format. From why colorization is so important in spreadsheet presentations to the ability to have multiple spreadsheets on one page, Michael explains why you should give Numbers another look.

Our discussion with Alexander Embiricos, Co-Founder and CEO, and Dan Wood, Chief Programmer, of Remotion, continues with some of the “nuts and bolts” features of their remote working program, including screen sharing, security of audio and video conversations, and more. Then, we take a turn into company cultures how software can support those cultures, and which comes first. We also touch on the very unusual pricing model that they are starting with, and how it is true to the company’s origins and evolution. (Part 2)

Alexander Embiricos, Co-Founder and CEO, and Dan Wood, Chief Programmer at Remotion, introduce us to a different kind of tool to apply to remote work. Alex goes into the pre-pandemic origins of Remotion, the need for “ambient awareness” for remote workers, and provides a demo. Dan goes into how Remotion takes its cues from the macOS Dock, and why it is a “real” macOS app. (Part 1)
