In Part 2 of our MacVoices Live! conversation with featured guest Peter Cohen and the panel of Jeff Gamet, David Ginsburg, and Brittany Smith, we continue to discuss the attacks on Apple about its app store policies, and talk about what it will take for a foldable phone to become popular. One panel member even dares to speculate on exactly what is needed for that to happen.
After too long an absence, Peter Cohen joined us for a recent MacVoices Live!, along with Jeff Gamet, Mark Fuccio, David Ginsburg, and Brittany Smith. Peter social media posts are always thought-provoking, even if you don’t agree with his position. He discusses the inspiration for his insights and provides some guidance on what not to do, then dissects the controversy stirred up (or not) by the Coalition for App Fairness. The panel looks at the group’s agenda and intent, and the implications for end users.
Manton Reece and Jean MacDonald of Micro.blog and Jonathan Hays of Sunlit have joined forces to bring photo sharing to the Micro.blog service, and join us to talk about this new enhancement. In Part 1, Manton starts us off by discussing some of the newest features in the latest update to the social media/microblogging platform, and Jean explains why they haven’t had to implement heavy-handed security to keep the service a pleasant one to use. Jonathan then explains how Sunlit integrates with Micro.blog, how it is and isn’t similar to that other photo sharing service, and why you would want to take advantage of it.
In the first part of this MacVoices Live!, the panel of David Ginsburg, Frank Petrie, Kelly Guimont, Brittany Smith, and Guy Serle talked about what Apple Stores are open before succumbing to the temptation to speculate on Apple’s October 13 event. Much of the discussion centered on, of all things, the rumored HomePod mini. Find out why the group was so excited by the possibility, and where they see such a device fitting in to Apple’s product line.
Some recent comments on The Mac Observer’s Daily Observations Podcast led to this debate on Apple’s relationship to its competitors with Bryan Chaffin, Kelly Guimont, and John Martellaro. In Part 1, we frame the question of whether Apple has obligations to its competitors to level the playing field when it comes to access to the iPhone as both a services platform and as a payment platform, and whether Apple’s financial resources should be considered in answering the questions.

This edition of MacVoices is supported by LinkedIn Jobs.
